Course Overview
This course is an element of the International convention for the standard of training certification and watch keeping for seafarers (STCW) basic mandatory safety training requirements; it fulfills and meets the minimum mandatory minimum competence requirements for seafarers familiarization, basic safety training and instructions in accordance with Table A-VI/4-1 of the STCW code.
This course is intended to provide the knowledge and understanding to officers in accordance with section AV1/4-1 of the STCW code; to provide training for candidate in order to provide medical first aid on board the ship when confronted with injury or other medical emergencies.
Aim
At the end of these training attendees should be able to demonstrate competence in the following area which also is in accordance with the requirements of table A-VI/4-1 of the STCW code which includes understanding the importance of a proactive medical first aid care to victims of injury or ill-health and covers the following area of IMO model course 1.14.
Objective
To facilitate or provide trainees-delegates minimum standard or competence in medical first aid as the requirement of the 2010 STCW convention table A-VI/4-1. On meeting the minimum standard, the Candidate will be competent to apply medical first aid in the event of illness or accident on board the vessel.
Course Duration
Three (3) days – 30 Hrs of studies or lectures. (Starts 08:00hrs: Finish 18:00hrs). There will be a formal 15-minute break at the mid-point of the morning and afternoon session each day, with a 45-minute lunch interval taken each day between 12:00 and 12:4m.
