Course Overview
This course provides training for officers and ratings, it comprises a basic training programme appropriate to their duties, including oil and chemical tanker safety, fire safety practice and obligations under applicable laws and regulations. The course takes full account of Section A-V/1-1 of the STCW Code adopted by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers as amended, including the Manila amendments 2010.
Competence:
At the end of the training, attendees should be able to:
- Understand the equipment, instrumentation and controls used for cargo handling on a tanker.
- Understand the need for proper planning, the use of checklists, and the time scale involved in various operations onboard an oil or chemical tanker
- Promote safety and protect the marine environment
- Know the importance in the application of proper and safe procedures at all times when carrying out the various operations on board an oil or chemical tanker
- Understand the principles of confined space entry
- Know loading and unloading procedures
- Know the flashpoint of product in cargo
- Understand simple tank cleaning procedures
