RATING FORMING PARTS OF AN ENGINEERING WATCH (MOTORMAN)

Course Overview

This course provides knowledge and understanding required for the Ratings Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (oiler, fireman, junior engineers or wipers standing engineering watches) on vessels to which the full effects of the STCW apply.

Competence:

At the end of the training, attendees should be able to:

  1. Perform engine room housekeeping
  2. Maintaining the water level and steam pressure
  3. The ratings could be part of a watch in a manned engine-room or designated to perform duties in a periodically unmanned engine room.

Learning Outcome:

Participants who complete this course should be able to undertake the duties of a rating forming part of an engine-room watch, which include but are not limited to:

  1. Understand orders and be understood in matters relevant to watchkeeping duties 
  2. Carry out a watch routine compliant with the duties of an engine room watch
  3. Communicate efficiently in watch-keeping matters
  4. Keep a boiler watch, maintain the proper water level and steam pressure; operate emergency equipment and utilize emergency procedures.
